Award-Winning Choral Ensembles
Silver Sound
Silver Sound is the extremely select a cappella advanced ensemble at James Bowie High School. This ensemble is comprised of the most elite twenty-two male and female voices in the choral department, and Junior and Senior students receive Honors Choir Credit for this class. These students perform a variety of repertoire ranging from Renaissance & Baroque choral music to Contemporary Commercial music, Vocal Jazz, and beyond. All members of Silver Sound are part of the Bulldog Concert Chorale and must participate in the TMEA All-State Choir audition process as well as UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. They are asked to perform throughout the year at events ranging from Bowie community events to the Texas Independence Day Gala, and many other out-reach events through-out the Austin area. They have been the recipient of many honors, most recently they were awarded a Superior Award at the American Classic Madrigal and Chamber Choir Competition in San Antonio, TX.
Bulldog Concert Chorale
The Bulldog Concert Chorale is the Varsity Mixed Choral Ensemble at James Bowie High School. Concert Chorale generally consists of advanced Sophomore, Junior, and Senior choir students meeting in two different classes: Varsity Treble and Varsity Tenor/Bass. This group is strictly audition based, with a heavy emphasis on sight-reading ability. The Bulldog Concert Chorale performs at many different concerts through out the year, public events, and UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, and the singers in this select ensemble are encouraged to participate in the audition process for the TMEA All-State Choir as well as the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. Many of the students in this ensemble are leaders on campus (including the 2018 Senior Class Salutatorian), participate in various other elective programs at James Bowie High School, earn lead roles in the JBHS Fine Arts Department Musical, and go on to receive scholarships to many fine musical institutions. The Bulldog Concert Chorale participates in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest in three different categories: as the Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir, Varsity Treble Choir, as well as the Varsity Mixed Choir and as such has received the coveted Sweepstakes Award a staggering 26 years consecutively totaling over 40 Sweepstakes Awards in the 30-year history of James Bowie High School.
Select Treble
The Select Treble Choir is an Intermediate-Level Treble Choir. This choir consists of mostly Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. The purpose of this choir is to prepare students for advancement into the Varsity Choir. The singers in this choir always represent JBHS at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Select Women is an audition based ensemble with a heavy emphasis on sight-reading instruction..
Concert Treble
Concert Women is a Junior Varsity Women's Choir that focuses on transitioning beginners into the High School Choral curriculum, this group is open to any Bowie High School student and consists of mostly Freshmen and other Beginner-Level students focusing on preparing students for admittance into the Intermediate and Varsity Choirs.
Concert Tenor/Bass
The Concert Tenor/Bass Choir is a Junior Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir that focuses on transitioning beginners into the High School Choral curriculum, this group consists of beginning level Freshmen, Sophomores, and any other JBHS students who show interest in joining a choir that focuses on preparing students for admittance into the Varsity Choir.
